Adaptive Reuse and the re-invention of existing retail space is such an appealing and rewarding undertaking. As designers, we have the social and environmental responsibility to promote and understand the ability of Architecture to be recycled, reused, and reduced - like any other human-made object.

This project was a quick design study for a long-time client to add a new outdoor catalyst to a successful existing shopping center. Bringing in some clean, modern, SoCal architectural details, framing welcoming and comfortable outdoor gathering spaces, and dropping in a large Market Hall, this extension will become the beating heart of the shopping center as well as the adjacent community. With minimal guidance from the Design Principal in Charge, I worked directly with the client and their leasing team to realize and expand their vision of this local destination.
